The Original Green Roof Chicken Coop was designed by an architect. It is unique in the fact that it really does not look like a chicken coop at all. At least, it does not look like the traditional chicken coops we are accustomed to seeing. This chicken coop is designed for up to four chickens. However, we think four large chickens would be a little crowded without attaching a chicken coop run or being diligent about free ranging the chickens each day. We think this is a perfect chicken coop for a backyard. It does a great job of disguising the fact that it is a traditional chicken coop and it is a perfect addition to the garden because it has a green roof and can support plant life on top. The foot print of the green roof chicken coop is 4’x4’ and it is about 4’ tall. The plans for this chicken coop are $34.95. It comes with a shopping list, cut list and detailed step-by-step instructions. Check out the pictures below. If you like what you see, click on one of the pictures below to get to their website.

Another Green Roof Chicken Coop production is the Herb Garden Chicken Coop. The plans cost the same as the original Green Roof Chicken Coop ($34.95). This chicken coop holds four large chickens or six smaller chickens. The chicken coop run is attached, there’s a hen house and a nest. The top of the nest is removable for easy access to eggs. We didn’t see a roost include as part of the instructions for the herb garden chicken coop. However, a roost is an easy addition to any chicken coop with some 2x2’s, a wood pole and a drill bit (the same size as the wood pole). We recommend a ¾” pole and even a 1” pole for larger chicken houses. In the case of the Herb Garden Coop, you could easily use a ¾” pole or even ¾” PVC pipe. Overall, we like the look of the stained chicken coop in this design. Certainly, you could paint it as well. Some people paint their chicken coops all kinds of colors to match their favorite sports teams or their outdoor décor. How you paint or stain these chicken coops is completely up to you! The cost to build this chicken coop is around $300 (including wood, hardware, the pond liner and chicken wire). You could use plastic bags instead of pond liner which would save a little money.
